Central Students Selected for IMEA Regional Ensembles
Grayslake Central High School Music Department is proud to announce that 5 students were selected by audition to represent the school at the prestigious Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) District 7 Senior High School Festivals to be held in November. The IMEA is part of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC), which serves as the definitive music organization in the US, promoting all areas of music education.
Students selected were senior Caitlin Horine (Soprano 1 -Senior Concert Chorus and Soprano – Vocal Jazz Ensemble), senior, Roy Pienaar (trombone – Senior Concert Band and Jazz Band), senior, Alex Kerwin (alto sax – Jazz Band), junior, Mystika Strawder (Alto 2 – Senior Concert Choir) and sophomore, Jacob Schrimpf (clarinet – Senior Concert Band). The strenuous audition process included sight-reading, knowledge of rhythms and melody, and musical interpretation. The students will participate at the two IMEA District 7 festivals. The Jazz Festival will take place on Saturday, November 14 at Glenbrook North High School, and the Senior Festival will be on November 21 at McHenry West High School. Both festival concerts are open to the public with a small entrance fee.
Music directors at the school are Jennifer J. White (choir and jazz choir), Dominic Bertino (concert band) and Paul Nielsen (jazz band). All GCHS performance groups are available to provide programs for community events.
