Prerequisites and Transcripts

Demonstrate that you meet proficiencies and prerequisites:

  • Before you will be able to register for most college credit classes, you need to show that you are college reading and writing ready and basic algebra ready.

  • All applicants who plan to enroll in credit classes need to prove academic proficiency in English language and basic algebra readiness. Most classes require one or both of these proficiencies as prerequisites to enroll in the course. Proficiency can be met in a variety of ways described in the links that follow. You may order your Official High School Transcript by completing an Official High School Transcript Release Form, available from the GCHS College Career Center or your high school counselor.

College Reading and Writing Readiness

Incoming students will be assessed for English language proficiency as demonstrated by meeting any one of the following:

  • High school transcript showing top one-third rank in class on the final transcript (or current transcript after at least five semesters).

  • High school transcript showing a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on the final transcript (or current transcript after at least five semesters).

  • CLC English Placement Test: Score of 505 or higher.

  • American College Test (ACT), Reading: Score of 17 or above, and English: Score of 17 or above.

  • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Score of 470 or above.

If you do not meet the minimum requirements for college level Reading and Writing, you will be required to take the CLC Placement Test. You may take the CLC Placement Test(s) on your own, at CLC, by visiting the CLC Testing Center.

Basic Algebra Readiness

Incoming students will be assessed for Basic Algebra Readiness as demonstrated by meeting any one of the following:

  • High school transcript showing top one-third rank in class on the final transcript (or current transcript after at least five semesters).

  • CLC Math Placement Test: Score of 14 or higher.

  • American College Test (ACT), Math: Score of 17 or above.

  • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), Math Score of 530 or above.
