After 11 years at Grayslake Central High School, hall monitor Cindy Thompson is retiring, leaving behind a legacy built on connection, positivity, and the simple power of making others smile.

For Thompson, the most meaningful part of her time in District 127 has always been the relationships she built with students and staff.

“All the wonderful connections with staff and students,” she shared.

Known for her upbeat personality and sense of humor, Thompson focused on creating a welcoming environment each day.

“I believe I have a knack for making people smile,” she said. “I like to have a pleasant impact on people, being happy and funny.”

Those small, everyday interactions added up to something much bigger, helping students feel seen and supported throughout their day.

As she reflects on her time at Grayslake Central, Thompson encourages others to keep perspective and enjoy the experience.

“Enjoy your time, and don’t take things too personally,” she said.

While it’s bittersweet to step away from a place she has deeply enjoyed, Thompson is looking forward to the next chapter.

“I’m not planning on getting up early unless it’s to go on vacation,” she said. “We just bought some jet skis, and I’m looking forward to having some fun on them, traveling, and spending more time with my kids and grandkids.”

After years of brightening hallways and building meaningful connections, Thompson leaves a lasting impact on the Grayslake Central community.
